How much does FC tip when eating out? I am a measly tipper unless there is a reason to - like over and beyond service. My wife isn’t necessarily a fan of me doing that. Can someone convince me otherwise?

As a former bartender/server, I’m an over tipper. I rarely tip under 20% and if service is good I go up from there. Service staff (in US at least) make less than minimum wage with the understanding that tips will make up that difference so I only hold back in instances of extremely poor service.

There are specific minimum wage laws for each state & federal with tipped workers having a lower rate. Check your state for specifics— here’s FL. https://frla.org/minimum-wage/#:~:text=notice%20of%20Statewide%20Minimum%20Wage&text=On%20September%2030%2C%202023%2C%20the,tipped%20employees%20will%20be%20%248.98.

This is very helpful 🙏 Seems like California doesn’t allow that.

Also it does look like, if workers do not get the necessary tips to make minimum wage, the employer needs to cover it. It’s not that I do not like to tip, but I particularly dislike the trend where they just turn around the screen with suggested tip amounts even when I am just ordering over counter, say a coffee.
