what is the consensus on screen time for babies? not relevant for my 2 week old right now, but i am trying to learn what should we do as he gets older. is there research/material that goes deeper into this? also appreciate any personal experiences you can share on what worked and what did not...etc.

we did zero screen time until they were 3? or 4. when my daughter was 6 months old, she saw a TV that happened to be on and the trance it put her in immediately creeped me out. we had planned to keep her away from screens but that definitely reinforced it.

Do you think there is a way to help them use screens more productively? For example: can screens help improve their creative capabilities?

There's evidence that kids under 2 don't learn anything from screens and it can cause problems with their development. That's why American Academy of Pediatrics recommends none before 18 months. As mine have gotten older, they got iPads and do 30-60 min / day. I do think many things they do are beneficial.
