It’s basically “surrender and give us half of your rare earth minerals”

I think it’s political kayfabe. It gives the Trump administration something to point to to tell Americans they got something back in return for all the money we’ve spent on the war, even if the reality the minerals aren’t actually accessible or economical to mine.
