Genuine question - what would make you care about or want to pay attention to onchain music? What’s currently missing that you need to see more of to start allocating time energy or capital? My first instinct says “a way to make money” but curious if I’m missing the mark.

a consumer narrative that makes sense to people outside of our bubble, a complete minimization of defi-bro language & UI design, and products that actually work well

hmm honestly talent is not the question, personally for me it's the distribution/aka an app like spotify (when i'm running or in a cab) right now listening to onchain music is limited to when I'm on my laptop

relationships. seems to me a big part of visual art success is the collector feeling connected to the artist in some way

IMO the thing I like about patreon podcasts is they keep producing good content The reason I subscribe to third man records drops is because they have great style and taste Seems like subscriptions/content/curation could be a sweet spot for joining an artists circle Something live and growing, not just buying tracks

The motivation to support talents currently drives my curiosity to explore onchain music, but from the consumer perspective I’ll go to Spotify 99.9% because the app is good, it has all my playlists, good recommendations etc. Supporter vs consumer roles

(pessimistic take) idt most listeners will care until music they love starts disappearing idt most artists will care until their end of the stick gets shorter perhaps what’d move the attention needle the most is when the music people love only exists onchain

i would happily collect songs i like if it was a feature in spotify - browser extension opportunity maybe? it feels like not being able to meet listeners where they are is a limiting factor for onchain music disclaimer: i don't know the first thing about onchain music

artists have to bridge value outside of music to those who claim. I don’t actually think fans want to make money off it, they just need to know that by having it they get something others don’t.

seeing the artistes thrive onchain. onchain interactions through onchain socials driving onchain transactions onchain should be more than just a medium of delivery imo

I think discovery is still super tough (and I have yet to listen to an onchain song I absolutely love). For example, I don't have enough time in the day to go looking for the next Fred Again.. Curation should help alleviate this pain point and it sounds like that's what you're doing with Coop Records.

Yep, I think seeing a music bull market is the main thing that will prove the market has viability in people’s eyes That’s how it was with art NFTs - people made fun of it until Beeple took off We just have to keep going, keep minting, and onboarding the best artists possible from all genres (incl classical/jazz)

On the artist side I'm missing a way that automatically detects any play anywhere in the world. I mean an onchain service for artists that collects any play of their songs and automatically collects earnings directly to the artist wallet.

I’ve exchanged music for talking heads lately but I wonder if it’s possible to identify super fans by tracking how many times someone listens to a collected song. It’s one thing to see who and how many people collected but it might be cool for an artist to see who listens to the full song on repeat, daily.

Buying a tune should present some tangible benefits- whether that's gated communities that brings fans together, discounts on shows / merch, or drops from other artists... there needs to be an added incentive. Otherwise fans just go back to ripping individual tunes to the detriment of the artist.

Hypermint meets spotify sorta thing. Aka subscription paywall with fan token airdrops. The more you listen to artist x the more token you accumulate which translates into concert tix and merch. Token is worthless unless you care about the artist you're listening to. (in theory)

Lol who needs money in a future of machines? Money is your internet behavior. Data quantity and most importantly, quality generated. Virgin logic used by machines to control organic processors, etc. What is need for music nfts rn, is a web3 media player. I can't open 999 tabs and press pause and play all the time. Ffs

Multi Tier Answer: Personally, I already collect onchain music regularly across multiple platforms. This was made possible by the circle of life, My art was collected, I reallocate into the ecosystem. This has slowed recently so i've had choose between collect or document.
