The more I use ChatGPT the more I realize that searching on Google is basically obsolete. The level of high trust and confidence I have in ChatGPT to deliver crucial information and numbers on a professional level is simply incredible.

What I've found particularly advantageous about ChatGPT (and Claude, etc.) is that I don't know what I don't know. If I'm exploring a new topic, I don't know what questions to ask. I know how to verify information, but if I don't know where to look? That does me no good. ChatGPT can point me in the directions I never knew to look. One of my favorite use cases is to have it make a "keyword curriculum" on a topic for me. A list of questions and keywords to search for and resources to seek out. Google results will only get as far as I know what to ask. ChatGPT can help me figure out what to ask.

This!!!!!!!! Used to only turn to Google now if I was searching for a website for something specific. Now I turn to chat gpt for that too. If gpt gets it's own browser, it's over.

same, I have been asking it things about parenting, health etc, what I like about it is that you get both useful anecdotal info and stats but that it delivers a response that is more actionable to your particular situation about why you want this info. gamechanger

Even if google gives you the right links, you have navigate the click bait, remove ad block, etc.

You should be careful, factually it still hallucinates sometimes. And thats disregarding the fact that as an outcome people start to use less own cognitive abilities and become more dependent on got to do the thinking instead of them.

Searching on google uses gemini I believe they put themselves back in the game But that works for small bits of information like “should i give my cat sardine” With google Gemini result you can get a fast accurate answer without opening any links But things like “what is ethereum l3’s a about” where you might need more knowledge, chat gpt would suffice

Same here. I often find myself typing a question into Google, getting a bunch of random nonsense, remembering ChatGPT exists, type in the same question, and immediately get the answer I was looking for. Search game changer.

Right! Using chat GPT instead, feels like asking someone who has already searched google, for all the info they got

you have... trust in gpt? It lies to me over 70% of the time, if I'm asking it something sufficiently meaningful. Sure it can tell me who the 5th president was. But god forbid you need the ppm of a solution. Or how to best grow a plant, fix an engine, probably would tell you how to ride a bike backwards. Maybe o1 is meaningfully better. But so far I'm not seeing it

i've been using perplexity as my search tool. but yes, search has changed. but will take about 5-10 years before the Gen Pop realizes it. so there's still money to be made by Google.
