If (I think it will) ChatGPT plugins kicks off an API integration arms race, the winners will be the phone and desktop OS vendors. The default voice interface will be upstream of the plumbing.

I’m very curious what move Apple is going to make to keep up here. Effective, easy AI is one of the extremely rare things that might get people to switch from iOS. I really hope they don’t drop the ball.

I’m expecting LLMs running locally & privately on device (Neural engine on M-series chips should be plenty of compute for this) with low-level access to your messages, photos, apps etc. Could be a real personal assistant level experience.
