Spent the day exploring the Marching Squares algo, made some big progress by being able to find individual regions and their vertex information - which lets me draw all sorts of funky shapes. Not sure if this will result in anything meaningful, but might be a powerful addition to the toolbox β¨

The wikipedia page on the topic is amazing. It's all fun and games when you're doing isolines but once you're moving into isobands it's getting rather complex rather quickly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marching_squares

Check out these 800+ lines of code comprising one gigantic switch statement, for isobands. https://github.com/r-lib/isoband/blob/f9cf8cea71741027ba137d7e2f9075a3680c59d9/src/isoband.cpp#L337
