One of the most frustrating things is seeing someone's ENS and wanting to reach out to them but having no means of actually doing so.

Pasting the ENS into FC/Twitter/Telegram sometimes works but otherwise its just a dead end connection.

If I send someone a message on XMPT they have to already be familiar with it and onboarded to accept it (plus actually check it)

Most people (myself included) don't check my onchain inbox because that's never been a behavior thats been normalized or feels standard to keep up with.
