USA: what is your current employment’s compensation band? 
Europe: how much ya making?

Depending on the country, in the case of salary e.g. the Swiss are quite reserved. 

Gross generalization to classify Europe: The more north you go, the reserved and colder the people get. The more south, the warmer and more open the people are. East-West can mix up reserved with direct (continental and national).
