It is a bit baffling to me that devs are so willing to outsource key components of their app like auth to third parties that have 0 interoperability

Rolling your own auth is not hard nor dangerous today - there are tons of frameworks that give you the exact same devex without the vendor lockin

We uses EIP-191 signatures. Could have used EIP-712 SIWE, but EIP-191 is more compact and doesn't require a contract.

Oh I just mean for creating the typed interfaces. Why would you use 712 for auth if it wasn't modeled after function calls from a local/deployed contract?

712 also doesn't require a contract btw. the whole domain field is optional

What do you mean require a contract? I had a site that used siwe and there were no contracts.
