I imagine it gets decent re-engagement and probably has little lasting effect on churn, so sadly will be opt-out for years to come.

Tough to say re: engagement Per your OP, people who aren't engaged seem to be put off and use it as anti-marketing And people who are engaged don't seem to get much benefit from it (you and me) So the question is, do the on-the-fence folks somehow convert due to the reminder, or does it annoy them?
