What do you not understand about crypto law or policy that you wish someone would ELI5?

seems like pseudonymity is effectively in name only going forward?

We likely won't get pseudonymity from ramps anymore. Maybe we can get it from other privacy-preserving tech built onchain, like Tornado Cash (but not actually Tornado Cash as long as it's sanctioned), or other L1s / L2s that have privacy-preserving features. But this is definitely what gov't cares about stopping most.
