when I press connect nothing happens

hmm does the button not say "mint" for you?

yes! it's strange how under preferred wallet there was nothing selected by default though (and i don't recall a dialogue asking me to choose something) - it would be nice if the choose wallet dialogue pops up when clicking "connect" if there is no wallet selected

Fixed! If others have the same issue:

Go to settings -> preferred wallet and make sure one option is checked

Restart the Warpcast app
