I have built manh teams in the past. Here are my 2 cents.

Successful teams may not build successful products.

So defining a successful team needs an assumption that they are on the right product/financial direction. 

Given that, successful teams are 

* Accountable to each other
* Mostly collaborative but mildly competitive 
* Respectable to personal and professional limitations.
