Making “anti-AI” a core part of the new progressive / left identity is a massive mistake. But there it is.

Is this guy important in some regard? I guess he must be somewhat since you’re using him as an example of the left and his PFP is him sitting on a panel or something But all that to say, even if the old fart liberals think “AI is bad,” doesn’t mean that’s actually a part of “the new progressive / left identity” Seems more likely young and or smart progressives / leftists embrace AI as a means to UBI and better (and shorter) working conditions

Unfortunately it's both. Old fart liberals have a lot more % in being anti-AI but also many genuine leftists are too. Fwiw the concern around stolen data is true, especially for visual gen. it's pretty lame how that just got accepted among the tech circles.

I agree - AI is far from being 100% good My main point is it's foolish for Joan to think this person, whom I've learned is a SciFi writer and not much else, is a flagbearer for what she calls "new progressive / left identity" My claim about new/young progressives and leftists being more realistic and accepting of the adoption of AI is biased by my own experiences. Some actual polling data would be interesting
