I often said this to conspiracy theorists who believed "Israel controls the US": That's not the full story. It's more the other way around; USA ruling class controls Israel. Israel is basically 51st American state, with the additional advantage for warhawks that they can exploit the historical plight of the Jewish people (knowingly making them less safe everywhere). When you look at it from that angle, everything crystallizes: How they can openly commit genocide. Why they never apologize. How economic & military aids have an ROI. How AIPAC exists to further the bond between the 51st state and federal government. Unethical & colonial & extractive & harmful for humanity. But it explains all the insanity we've seen in the last 11 months.

I think the belief that Israel “controls” the US has its roots in anti-semitic tropes, even on a subconscious level. There is no logical reason for Israel to control the USA, the greatest western imperial superpower. I have always thought of Israel as a satellite state or US army base.

Maybe, obv I ultimately agree but there's some truth about the massive impact of AIPAC, a transparent Israeli influence on the US - that part is factual. But I agree that people ignore how much the American political class (+ military industrial complex) benefits from this satellite state.

AIPAC afaik is made up of mostly Jewish Americans. Many of them have “Israeli” citizenship but you only have to live there for a year to get that. Source: my high school used to send a student delegation there 😫
