Very dependent on nature of community but almost always has some connection to - strength of core ties - # of new connections/relationships being made - frequency of engagement

Using FC open-graph as sample + data availability. - high level DAU + growth. - Identity graph - strongest nodes (users), qty & quality. - Time-lapse identity graph to see shift on users & usage - NLP to parse cast, see topics, maybe sentiment - Surveys.

would say referrals but web3 adds extrinsic incentive. health metrics aside, a lonnnnngggg unpaid survey — in addition to the responses, what % is engaged enough to care about sharing their feedback / how confident are they that sharing feedback will lead to change?

Above and beyond size and growth of community: 1/ Engagement of user base 2/ Sentiment of responses, positive = better (similar to what Jack alluded to with conversation “health”) 3/ NPS 4/ Delight (see @delightscale on the bird app)

Depends on goals of the community. You’d need to think holistically about the community member lifecycle from activation, through engagement, retention and healthy or unhealthy churn. Don’t remember if it had metrics but https://www.people-and.com/get-together-book is quite good.

Frequency + Engagement How frequently are community members sharing, helping each other and make friends? How much are members getting out of the community with each engagement (clicks, views, befriending members)?

When i was at Tumblr many moons ago, we tried many metrics but "repost (RT)" to "post (original content)" was always the most insightful.

Short answer: total number of users, acceleration of new sign ups, engagements amongst sign ups, turnover rates. Long answer: define health, moral relativism comes in to play when measuring one community and its values to another.
