something i’ve observed anecdotally and loosely validated qualitatively is that someone’s reply:quotecast ratio when contributing to a conversation correlates to their ego (how they see themselves vs the rest of the community). not always a bad thing, but i’ll leave it at that. study people who reply > quotecast

I'm not a big quotecaster but when I do, often it is because I think that it will give the person more reach then a straight recast. I have no idea if this is true.

yes, as mentioned quote casting is not always a bad thing because i’ve seen casters with large followings use it to drive awareness to an interesting conversation by smaller accounts or amplify a smaller account (which is net positive and self aware of them to use their distribution in such a way)

it doesn't seem like it makes that big of a difference except that you can attach opinion to it which could sway more viewership.

It does help highlight smaller accounts and I find is appreciated on that level to add to another group and get visibility.
