hi peeps! i'd like to announce /reframing. i've tried to write this thread a few times already so let me just dive into why i'm starting another channel for nobody to care about.

/reframing is born out of a singular problem i've been experiencing, which is that i want to hang out on farcaster (i don't use any other social media) but i also can't stand when people say dumb shit on the internet. bummer, right? but what if it's not the answers that are wrong? what if it's the premise?

reframing is hard -- trust me, i've spent two days writing and rewriting this announcement thread, and, tbh, i'm still not sure what i'm doing. but that's the whole idea. are we seeing the problems clearly? what if there's more to them? how can we acknowledge the invisible? and, most importantly: how can we disabuse misconceptions without abusing each other?

i think this is the central crux of the problem, and it's the real reason i'm starting this channel: i'm a sarcastic asshole. and nuance is difficult. but i want a better world! so i'm creating this space as a place to practice putting aside my angers, disappointments, and disbeliefs, in order to put a good faith effort towards seeing more clearly. and being kinder. a place to overexplain and rant and probably cry sometimes. a place to slow down. a place to *care*.

look, our problems are so much bigger than our squabbles. but dunking on each other feels productive! because fighting feels like action! but i'm tired of fighting, grandpa. and it's NOT too damn bad! because i know there are *other options*.

tbh, i don't have a template for /reframing. i'm not sure what rules or guidelines to put down. but i can't keep peering through the same peephole over and over when there's an entire world on the other side of the door.

so join me! (or don't) reject modernity! (false dichotomies and logical fallacies) embrace tradition! (the secret third thing) and let's build a culture of not willfully blinding ourselves for the convenience of our arguments! ya dig?

Interesting concept I can’t say that I understand fully but I’m super keen to follow along

I think I dig and I definitely feel ya I also suspect that we will bring different assumptions to the table I also want to believe that we could both do some conscientious untangling of assumptions around some specific piece of stupid shit and (this is the key): Clearly articulate fundamental differences in values or frameworks of thought that lie at the root of the matter without losing our minds I think it will be easier for people to see what you mean if there’s a concrete example to read through I’ve got thick skin, I’m willing to dig deep, and I think I’m on your wavelength So count me in for the trial phase Feel free to tear apart something stupid I’ve said, or to loop me in as a sparring partner on something stupid someone else said At the very least, I’ll be following with interest 🫡
