If people's wages increased at a similar rate to the devaluing of the peso they could maybe afford rent. Since that isn't happening half of Argentina is now poor.

the situation is more nuanced. the policy change increased housing supply and stabilized prices. rents are falling due to increased competition among landlords, not because people can't pay.

this has a complete opposite effect to what you're saying: more people can afford housing in Argentina now
