Something I don't think many founders fully internalize… You’re de facto competing with other startups in your investors’ portfolio for their time/attention and future capital. A “bad VC” to you can be an “excellent VC” to a founder friend, and you can both be right.

on the other hand, you're also de facto being shepherded into cross-selling to each other to inflate the portcos, and shepherded away from accepting non-portco vendors.

Tbf, I’m not familiar with any cases of undue pressure being applied. Its also exceedingly rare that one startup vendor relationship could materially influence the financial health of another. They're just too small.
