Something I don't think many founders fully internalize… You’re de facto competing with other startups in your investors’ portfolio for their time/attention and future capital. A “bad VC” to you can be an “excellent VC” to a founder friend, and you can both be right.

Ideal state: fund resources/time/energy are unlimited. Reality: investors have to make difficult resource allocation decisions just like founders do.

on the other hand, you're also de facto being shepherded into cross-selling to each other to inflate the portcos, and shepherded away from accepting non-portco vendors.
