The difference between some of these individuals is they did not balance idealism with the law. Tornado cash had opt-in compliance at best, not to mention the developers were prosecuted in a country with a different set of laws, and had some reasonably damning conversations. (Notwithstanding some absurdly stupid attempts at drafting new laws), we fulfill compliance obligations in a decentralized way with respect to the user having sufficient information when taking action to accept or reject fund transfers. Privacy is not a crime. Money laundering is.
