Recs for a Japanese author? 

A friend told me before he takes a trip he likes to read a book from that place …I’d like to adopt this

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata is a short, ironic look at the contemporary work culture in Japan. 

Also an in-depth look at the convenience stores u will grow to love over there (family mart chicken and 7-11 cheeseburgers were a big guilty pleasure)

If you like detective mysteries I recommend The Devotion of Suspect X or really anything by Keigo Higashino. Very readable.

I really liked The Master of Go by Yasunari Kawabata

Haikus from Matsuo Basho and some novels by Haruki Murakami.
