Still, the defense is pretty weak when the models are just an OpenAI API and all the startups do is writing prompt templates.

Definitely, I think my presumption is that you either build out non AI moats in parallel (sales/BD, complementary product suite, implementation, etc) or else you die

That makes sense. I am really curious about what happens when incumbents integrate it fully e.g. Adobe. Is that an end to all small niche gen AI startups? Or Unity integrates it and what happens to gaming asset startups over the medium term

I think the math is the same as it always is: Incumbent Distribution vs Startup Agility In the time it takes Adobe to launch an AI product (which lets be real probably looks like a chatbot where you do your own prompting), I should’ve launched 10 iterations of my product so I can solve the same problem 10x better

That's true as always for sure. Startups win thx to their agility and customer delight + some tech The thing that concerns me is that this formula is skewed with GPT APIs in favour to incumbents: - The reason to that is it is still the case that a regular startup has to build out a whole stack of tech in a niche
