There are dozens TikToks of Chinese factory reps explaining to Americans how to get expensive “western” goods like Lululemon directly to dodge tariff markups Is it brilliant economic warfare or just a fascinating market evolution?

I wonder if the Chinese factories are assuming the trade war kills their brand relationships anyway so they might as well sell their inventory…

Besides my previous reply I don’t get the feeling they give many fvcks. They already are threatening to undo trademark agreements that took years to establish. Feels to me they have the upper hand on multiple levels and they are enjoying it. Where is Nike going to go anyway? It can’t be easy setting up new manufacturers https://warpcast.com/trish/0x36198ed0

Trademark agreements and IP agreements took more than a decade to negotiate at the behest of giants like Microsoft and Hollywood Studios. So if china rips these agreements up the trade war will affect more than just physical goods.

To be clear, I’m not happy with any of this but from a human perspective, feeling their schadenfreude a little? Also, I know some small designers who still get their jewelry and toys knocked off and sold. Maybe I’m thinking if the big guys feel it, the little guys can find some justice? I don’t know exactly. I just laugh so I don’t cry in my popcorn

This is mostly where I’m at too. Anybody that doesn’t have global legal on payroll has zero support with knock off issues today, might as well make everyone feel the pain so something gets done about it systemically (or if it doesn’t get fixed then by default you’re making markets fairer for new entrants in a roundabout way)

Here’s something else I don’t entirely understand. Amazon does this to small businesses all the time. American Tech founders in my feed crying out to eliminate ip law and cco everything There is nuance and I know these laws can be ridiculous but we’re so inclined to vilify Chinese businesses when we have so many problems in our own backyard I don’t know enough to argue the nuts and bolts. I’ve already said things I realized were stupid. This said, I’m inclined to worry about my side of the street before I start pointing fingers elsewhere
