You need a role model: someone to inspire and lead the way. Humans are natural imitators; we learn by observing and mirroring others. Think about what happened in Haiti in 1804, the first country in Latin America to gain independence. It took bold pioneers—第一个吃螃蟹的人 (the first person brave enough to eat a crab)—to pave the way for others to follow. But as Derek Sivers highlighted in his famous TED Talk, it’s not just about the first leader. The second person to step up is equally crucial. They validate the idea and show others it’s worth following. Once the followers join in, momentum builds, and suddenly, a movement is born. It all starts with a spark, but it takes courage, validation, and collective action to ignite a fire. So, who’s your role model? Who’s your second follower? And what movement will you create?
