i’ve been thinking a lot this week about the map of social change roles and how we can use this framework to think about ethereum’s ecosystem. ethereum is a social experiment that needs all players involved. mapping thread, tag urself 🪡

I’m also sometimes a bit of a Weaver.  🤝 Weavers connect people, ideas, and movements, building relationships and networks to strengthen the ecosystem (think builder support communities like @buidlguidl @ethglobal )

🧑‍🔬 Experimenters innovate, test new approaches, embrace creativity and risks, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Think Ethereum’s research community!

⛑️ Frontline Responders address immediate crises, provide direct support, aid, or intervention. in the ecosystem, this looks like responding security threats, network outages, or governance disputes. @ all core devs, protocol support, and client teams fixing bugs, white-hat hackers preventing exploits, and legal advocates responding to regulatory threats

🔮 Visionaries imagine and articulate bold, transformative futures, inspiring others with new possibilities. People like @vitalik.eth , @ayamiya , @justindrake , the @ethereumfndn  Next Billion team are thinking of ethereum’s long term goals and the infinite game we’re playing.

🛠️ Builders create and maintain the infrastructure that sustains Ethereum. Think all core devs, L2 teams, tooling creators, and DAO operators who ensure systems actually work in practice

🪴 Caregivers offer emotional, physical, and spiritual support for the well-being of individuals in the ecosystem, ensuring sustainability and preventing burnout. Shout out to all the project and community managers, organizers of retreats/conferences, community advocates within DAOs 💞

🧨 Disrupters challenge injustice by taking action, speaking truth to power, and disrupting harmful systems. In ethereum this can be challenging traditional financial, governance, and social systems, using Ethereum as a tool for radical change. It also looks like challenging the community internally. We see this work done by cypherpunks and privacy advocates, DeFi innovators, public goods funding programs, and voices in our community who call us on our bs.

❤️‍🩹 Healers help to repair harm within the community, whether addressing governance failures, conflicts, or systemic inequalities. In ethereum, this may include facilitators who resolve DAO disputes, community groups focused on diversity and inclusion in Web3 like WiEP (@poojaranjan19 )

📜 Storytellers share narratives that shift perspectives, shape culture, and uplift voices often left unheard. There are many writers, podcasters, meme-makers, and historians documenting Ethereum’s evolution and helping to shape the discourse around Ethereum’s purpose, progress, and cultural significance. The idea behind this framework is that no single role is more important than another; we all have a role to play and they’re all valuable!
