I take notes obsessively for every book I read. It’s not a shortcut. It’s laborious. But to be honest - I don’t trust myself to absorb anything I don’t write down.

That's fantastic, 100% stealing your template! When reading on the Kindle, I highlight passages like there's no tomorrow but I'm a bit more precious when it comes to paper. I also find that note taking allows for thinking and processing time. If I'm able to elaborate on what I just read, I'm more likely to remember.
