do you own? any regrets? assuming you have 20+% to put down, would you? i hear the “avoid PMI” case vs “never put down that much at close” pov basically 50/50 amongst ppl i know

my 2c is that ownership is a luxury. if you buy, either 1) you have plenty of $ and it doesn’t matter or 2) you want to live in a place as your own above any potential downside/upside of that $ (eg watch the kids grow, make it your own, etc). starting from that pov, it has made my decision making easier.

we bought our home 10+ years ago, many of my discussion points might not make sense in today's market. If its in a community you want to raise kids through HS in then I think ownership is a good decision, because you aren't at the will of future markets, cause you won't be moving. in MA, big shortage of housing = $

yea i mean it’d be our first and we’ve no plans to leave the city so we’re seeing as a semi-long term buy nervous about the higher interest rates we have now

I'm not a student of fed funds rate. Reckon we come down a bit this year, don't think we revisit the magic of sub 3 or sub 4 unless economy tanks big time. Depending on your location the role of property taxes over time may be a bigger concern - as some locations are going to need to raise $ for long term obligations
