not for me, for one of the kids, who doesn't currently have a CC - so we might just get a revolut set up or just use apple pay

I just used two of my credit cards that have no foreign transaction fees. Was able to use them through Apple Pay most of the time. 

Cards I used were the United Club Infinite, and Chase Sapphire Reserve. 

Where are you going in Spain? Everything was pretty inexpensive while I was there.
