While I absolutely love the work I do, one major downside is I don’t really get any time to experiment anymore or even read up on what others are building. 

Trying to set aside and commit to a minimum of 2 hours a day for it. Any other advice on how to stay up-to-date?

This is hard, I feel you, I deal with the same thing. I think you need to know when “you’re at your best”, which for me is mornings. I reserve time when I’m sharpest for myself and work on my own things then, and try to keep it open what I want to work on, not what I “should” do
