It’s fucked up to see the usual suspects politicizing the issue and acting like total morons when firefighting as it stands today wasn’t born out of some grand political scheme—it was born out of a harsh reality. In LA, when you try to dig the scrubland out of these hills to prevent fires, all you’re doing is setting up a landslide disaster and polluting the watershed. And it doesn’t help that, with their constant lobbying, the Mayor thinks it’s OK to scrap $23 million from the firefighting city budget to give it to the LAPD, all to appease the Chamber of Commerce, anti-homeless groups, and proponents of jail labor. https://www.foxla.com/news/bass-proposed-city-budget-includes-more-funding-for-lapd-cuts-for-lafd.amp

LA City needs major reform. With the County having a new elected executive in a few years, the city as an administrative unit doesn't really make a lot of sense. That's just the tip of the iceberg though... we need a thorough and major overhaul of how CA government operates https://pioneeringspirit.xyz/building-10x-more-state-capacity-to-address-megafires-and-climate-proof-california

Yes, my point is, until this all chamber of commerce, forced jailed labor advocates, taxpayers associations, realtor groups and anti-homeless groups only cared about divvying more money for the LAPD
