When your customers are shareholders and investors and their demands are to cut costs, your product is doomed. Buying quality, wearing them longer, giving your money to quality companies trying to make a difference and buying secondhand all help, but that's not how the majority of people shop.

I don't know if it's right to put all of the responsibilities on consumers. It's unfortunately also an economic truth that not all can afford to make the choices they'd ethically like to make say, for example, buy milk only from happy cows or t-shirts from places that treat their workers right.
