Rebuild an angel system from scratch, writing off the 50+ year olds in the current system. I have tried to improve the current system and it’s a lost cause. Angel groups are non-profits in Canada and government supported. When they should be funds with a profit motive!

What have you tried? Agreed the angel groups tend to suck, but there are a few okay ones. For example in Waterloo, Garage Capital and friends are good. COVID really hurt the ecosystem though, sadly.

Sure, Garage is good. They’re a fund. That’s one example ;) Ran a group in Vancouver called Open Angel to kill pay to pitch. I was a member of the National Angel Capital Organization, at the time was one of the youngest people involved. Got Canadian-ized SAFE docs. I built a seed fund and and lead deals.

What I’d try: Regional funds and syndicates and focus on peer investing. Write a cheque into every YC or TechStars accepted Canadian founder (kind of what Garage has been doing). But I mean _every_ deal.
