For me it was always about the audience. I had a literary agent at one point, but I never really built the audience to sell the book. Kinda got super frustrated about it.

Yeah, I've heard similar experiences. It's such a sliver of books that get through the gaunlet and make it to a list via trad route. Did the agent expect you to grow your social media channels?

Yes, exactly. But the growth she was asking for was ever changing, and seemed just out of reach.

Right after that, my life went in a completely different direction! So, I haven't had much time to revisit. It was a nonfiction book, and based in my biz at the time. Lightyears away from what I'm doing now.
