I think it depends on the kind of smells you are open to and how much open space you have.

My neighbor has about 20 so I'd say somewhere in that range.

4+ is too many

3 is the maximum that anyone could possibly justify… but you need to have a barn infested with mice

1 or 2 isn’t abnormal whatsoever
