Switched over from Docker Desktop to OrbStack (https://orbstack.dev) on my mac for the last month, and a way better experience—well worth the small cost. Warpcast's test suite runs almost twice as fast under OrbStack compared to Docker Desktop (running a few containers).

My rough understanding is they integrate with native Mac hypervisor APIs to create lightweight Linux VMs to host the containers. Their benchmarks claim this saves on power consumption, memory, and overall CPU. All I can say is that from my anecdotal experience, it is indeed faster. I also like its simplicity compared to Docker Desktop.

I just googled but orbstack is a godsend and docker desktop feels like an electron 2019 webapp ported to desktop https://accesto.com/blog/orbstack-vs-docker/#:~:text=In%20contrast%2C%20OrbStack%20is%20designed,Macs%20with%20Apple%20Silicon%20chips.
