Looks like they want to make an example out of him https://www.reuters.com/legal/us-prosecutors-seek-death-penalty-luigi-mangione-bondi-says-2025-04-01/

The issue is largely what the case represents. A layperson killed someone of the upper echelon. If people see this, they are emboldened to do the same. This case is frightening to the people in power, largely because if people don’t fear the consequences, then their ability to rule is threatened.

or maybe we look at it like a human killed another human in public in broad daylight..... we prob should discourage this type of behavior I'd imagine 😳

Killing someone in broad daylight is highly discouraged, he was already facing life in prison if found guilty (which btw he is still presumed innocent despite Bondi's letter) And also it would be nice if we could discourage the mass denial of insurance claims for bullshit reasons

My Mother has suffered from CRPS for years so trust me, I’m onboard with insurance being an issue…. But I think it goes even further than that, insurance companies are not necessarily the root of the cause for high prices. In the US everyone is sue happy so medical malpractice insurance is high…. In return the Drs have to charge premiums for services, they bill the insurance $500 for a Tylenol pill & the insurance covers $25 of it, who’s at fault here? …. Should 1 Tylenol pill be billed at $500? This of course is just an example. I will say I spent 4 months in Australia & I was shocked…. I got COVID & my Dr appt for a non insured, non resident was $26 😳 Same appt at in the US at an After Hours facility is $250. A medication I take that’s $1200 per month in the US was $126 in AU. Same manufacturer & everything. I think at the end of the day the incentives need to change along with the pricing structures of things.

Oh for sure, insurance isn't the only problem. The entire health care system should be overhauled but the common thread in every issue is an obsession with profit maximization
