Hey guys I have an honest question, been trying to figure this out: When people claim that Y thing is not “for the people,” or “not native” What exactly does that mean? Who are the people in this case? What defines nativity?

'Not for the people' means it doesn't benefit the broader community. 'Not native' means it's not originally from or deeply rooted in a particular place or culture.

for now I'd rather say the people is their circle of friends, "not native" based on their own experiences and backgrounds. For further details, I'd need to know the detailed conext though.

“‘For the people’ and ‘native’ are subjective terms, open to interpretation based on perspective and context.”

Not for the people means it is not something for the general mass. It’s more like for the selective few.

I’ll say when something is said to be "not for the people," it means it's not accessible, or inclusive for the general population. "Not native" refers to something that isn't authentic/originally from a particular culture/environment. So thing Y, is not for said specific population cos it doesn’t originate from their culture

I feel "Nativity" relates to whether something organically comes from within a community or culture versus being imposed or adopted externally

it’s basically saying that “y” thing originated from this group of people or culture and sometimes those groups like to keep those things to themselves to avoid westernization or “y” thing is used to mark something significant with a group of people who may feel offended if “y” thing is used for other reasons
