does anyone know what the approximate translation of "based" in chinese would be?

Sorry @jessepollak, just saw this, hope not too late...

As a CATTI translator/interpreter & IPA teacher, I think the best translation for it should be 巴适bā shì as it's actually an actual word in Sichuan dialect which means nice etc. which is the closest to the original "based" without losing the meaning. 😉

“bā shì”本意是“火”，人们从事物感受到的“很好”、“舒服”、“正宗”、“地道”、“太好”、“很好”、“可以”、“安逸”、“超级爽”，引经据典的写法是“粑实”，比喻办事牢靠，严实，实在，以及引申的舒服，安逸等含义。
