Honest question for those who train for strength: what do you think has been the biggest factor for getting your numbers up? Food, low reps, high reps, periodization, accessories, form, heavy negatives...?

When I was at my strongest I was doing high frequency barbell lifts and close variations, med to low reps, submax back off work. Basically 531 sort of stuff but high frequency. I was also bulking like a nut. Years later I'm still trying to shed that weight 😑

Yeah, I've basically been doing some form of 531 for a few years now. High frequency like every day? Good to know about the bulking. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I was doing UHF by gzcl, 5 days if I remember. Each lift got hit 3x weekly. Absolutely destroyed my joints and tendons though. I do body building style training now (5-7 days weekly), significantly weaker, but in much better shape and stronger at higher rep ranges than before.

I'll check it out, thanks. I've considered pivoting to more of a BB style program. I feel like the idea of getting stronger is one of the things that keeps me motivated though.

Yea for sure! I didn't really "get it" until I went head first into BBstyle. You're absolutely getting stronger, just not 1RM strong, you know? I'm still doing big barbell lifts and slowly bringing them up. I'm just not chasing strength per se.
