A lot of key stuff we use today got designed and built just fine before figma existed. Even paper prototypes can go a long way in user testing.

Nothing against paper prototypes, just mentioned Figma because I wanted to be clear that I wasn’t referring to code. Context matters. If screens already exist, can leverage screenshots in the flow to prototype. It’s good practice for documentation and maintaining historical knowledge. UX is as important as UI.
