What are your thoughts on why Farcaster isnโ€™t growing active users?

Are weekly and monthly active same time frame? If so, interesting that monthly has grown a lot while weekly is flat.

it feels like a 500 person group chat to me chat right now, so my sense is people come on and they donโ€™t โ€œfit inโ€ or make friends, and so they donโ€™t stick around

too much emphasis on crypto when in reality its users are not crypto-centric at all โ€” implied community vs. realized community very different: https://warpcast.com/greg/0xf688fa

Not sure top line MAUs is a good focus at this stage. I'd wager retention & activity of the Purple & NFT active cohorts have significantly improved, and that scaling the number of DAOs and NFT communities that can utilize Warpcast would have greatest long term value creation.

1. Not different enough a Ux from status quo 2. Pain experienced by using incumbent solutions not high enough yet 3. Solving for quality community > quantity / โ€˜crypto broโ€™ culture

Lack of passively consumable content. You need to participate to get value and participation is a high bar.

Itโ€™s a worse Twitter right now. More of a large telegram/discord community than a Twitter rival. Hopeful it finds a way to compete against Twitter but itโ€™s a huge challenge. Twitter has the content and incredibly strong network effects. For a web3 app to stay flat deep in bear market isnโ€™t awful though.

1) Putting in the time and effort to rebuild your social network on a new platform. 2) a smaller network disincentives users to migrate who want to maximize their reach and also have a constant feed of new content Tbh, I enjoy the small town feel of Farcaster rn. Less noise, better signal.

Here is a take that I donโ€™t feel strongly about, but Iโ€™m curious about reactions: It might be too early for Web3 social media. 1. Key mgmt ux is terrible 2. Fully on-chain is too slow and expensive 3. Hybrid is difficult to build on so permissionless innovation premium isnโ€™t strong enough to pull in masses

There are two products here, social network for conversation, commoditized social graph api They arenโ€™t equal and their growth trajectories shouldnโ€™t look the same If Phase 1 was get people here who will use it as a test to understand how to build from it, then the flatline is fine because building takes time

1) Keeping up with yet another feed is hard. 2) The community that's working, crypto builders/hackers with SV leaning, don't create engaging/viral content for lurkers.

Over time, the notification system doesn't maintain activity unless you're a mega user. There is a lack of reward and satisfaction. + Without indication, creation is frustrating, and is sometimes interpreted as a negative reaction, reducing engagement. + FC is an expensive hobby Belonging means investing.
