A lot of people in tech care more about *seeming* important or consequential vs. doing anything real, and it's funny because having that worldview basically means these folks won't ever accomplish anything noteworthy by default because they're afraid of rocking the boat & instead (at best) they end up as high functioning defenders of the status quo because they're looking for validation from existing elites, who, ironically, are mostly interested in people doing the opposite i.e. taking real risks

and sometimes you are even ready to take risks, try and try again if necessary. but you just can’t find the right like-minded person, so you also have to immerse yourself in something you’ve never done in order to take a risk for that guy as well
