I was catching up with a founder friend of mine last night. This is what he said his life is like. "Being a CEO is about running from crisis to crisis with a smile on your face – no light at the end of the tunnel – got to enjoy the process, there is no destination. Every level there is a new challenge” Does this resonate, or is he unique?

That’s how it is. The smile on your face while doing it, is based on personal perspective and intrinsic happiness. That’s why so many break during the process or rise so high imo

So true. Have to enjoy the process & volatility. A job for ppl w/ strong nerves.

Being CEO is being the light in the tunnel. The destination is your vision for the future, a place that is continually inspiring that you never quite reach. I'd also add it's a surprisingly lonely job.

Your friend is not unique. Every day at Apple was about solving one crisis after another. Remember the antenna issue with the iPhone 4? We had to thrive under pressure and deliver. That's the reality of leadership. Embrace it or get out.
