I take them as separate issues. An obvious lapse in security may invite many more attacks. Ford had two assassination attempts within a month. DHS & the FBI released a joint statement to LE which seems to be driving the Iran story.

It is very unlikely. But I am surprised that the level of security was so bad for an outdoor lecture. If there was more than one gunman there, disaster would have struck.
