To be fair, we’re in a wild enough timeline they could have won a Nobel prize for finding that encouraging bank collapses is vital as it is akin to “controlled burns” in the financial industry.

it is kinda weird to award economic research driving bank policy that seems to be driving the problems that the economic research was designed to avoid

Yeah this is where academia seems to disambiguate the research from the outcome. Empirically sound research != something that helps society move forward. Feels like the former is what gets evaluated while the latter is often squinted at.
