October 2nd my temporary residency card is expiring, what comes next is why I haven't been as bullish/positive for Portugal and is extremely painful

Renewal process is simple, you log into government website, pay, confirm your address and new card will come to your mail.

The problem is, as I found out, they only plan to open renewal for cards expiring now - by end of year, and waiting times for the card to be delivered is 4-6 months right now, which I really hope is not true lol

So after my card expires and until government processes the renewal, for many months I'm:
- locked in Europe and have to cancel all travel plans outside of the country
- likely to loose access to every digital app, especially financial
- have to defend myself within portugal every time I show my residency card

Another thing is that with private insurance waiting times now for appointment got insane as well, 1.5 months to 4 months waiting lol

Scary to think of estimates on "free healthcare"

A year ago I was booking appointments within an hour or at most a few days

If you were to go into court for something, same thing is going to happen - you'll pay a lot and waste 0.5-1 year of your life waiting after something happens

prices on accomodation jump constantly, not much at all is being built etc.

what are nations striving for nowadays?

legacy states pretty much lost their meaning, what are they striving for now? end wars they've started? lower inflation they've created? everything has stopped pretty much

uniting people by the place they were born into and the flag people around them are carrying with the anthem they're singing doesn't make sense to me

a nation must have it's purpose and goals, so there are already multiple network state attempts with their own purposes, goals and values,
I think we'll see exponential growth of those in the coming years

this is what's making me excited about joining network states - a shared sense of purpose, values, goals and vision to work towards together, something no other state can offer or even allow in some cases

and also because we're focusing on building digital and physical things, coming up with solutions to improve our human lives and people around us, while legacy governments just struggling to keep what they inherited

that's why I think Portugal has no future, at least based on what we can currently see happening, it's broken

Did you cross the border in portugal or other eu country with your expired card?

the craziest thing is that this process was taking a couple of weeks last september

nope I’d surely know about it, and it’s just a renewal process, there’s no documents to review or anything 

funny thing also they have to give new document within 3 months of expiry, but it’ll take about 6 months to get into the court and demand this law to be respected lol

last year the process took a couple of weeks max

so I was chill, right now they messed up so badly it’s taking over 6 months

my american neighbor just told me she has friends still waiting whose card expired in February

and no one taking responsibility or getting fired for doing such a poor job which affects over 300000 people right now

it’s like they don’t have smart people in the leadership, or even average person I think would be able to sort this out given the urgency and importance

Oof sounds horrible. Do they not have some kind of temporary document so you're not locked in?
