October 2nd my temporary residency card is expiring, what comes next is why I haven't been as bullish/positive for Portugal and is extremely painful Renewal process is simple, you log into government website, pay, confirm your address and new card will come to your mail. The problem is, as I found out, they only plan to open renewal for cards expiring now - by end of year, and waiting times for the card to be delivered is 4-6 months right now, which I really hope is not true lol So after my card expires and until government processes the renewal, for many months I'm: - locked in Europe and have to cancel all travel plans outside of the country - likely to loose access to every digital app, especially financial - have to defend myself within portugal every time I show my residency card

Oof sounds horrible. Do they not have some kind of temporary document so you're not locked in?

it’s like they don’t have smart people in the leadership, or even average person I think would be able to sort this out given the urgency and importance

last year the process took a couple of weeks max so I was chill, right now they messed up so badly it’s taking over 6 months my american neighbor just told me she has friends still waiting whose card expired in February and no one taking responsibility or getting fired for doing such a poor job which affects over 300000 people right now

nope I’d surely know about it, and it’s just a renewal process, there’s no documents to review or anything funny thing also they have to give new document within 3 months of expiry, but it’ll take about 6 months to get into the court and demand this law to be respected lol
